UAAP Season 71: Green Archers overcome Falcons in OT

img_3454The DLSU Green Archers needed an extra five minutes to dispose of the Adamson Falcons, 84-79 in Season  71 of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Philsports Arena.

Coming from a hairline win over the UST Growling Tigers last Thursday, the Green Archers groped for form the entire ballgame but managed to send the game into overtime.  The Green Archers had the opportunity to seal the victory after Adamson bungled its last play with only 5.7 seconds left. As in their game against the Tigers, a play was designed for rookie point guard LA Revilla, but Revilla failed to nail the shot.

Rico Maierhofer, redeeming himself from his dismal performance from the charity line in Thursday’s game, delivered the final blows to the Adamson Falcons, with his free throw shots.

J-vee Casio, who will be celebrating his birthday on September 1, topscored anew for the defending champions with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

i have a very serious question, what happened to the archers in their last 3 games? would this happen to our last game against ADMU?

  • greengreen

I couldn’t move a muscle when I was watching this game, though we cannot afford a slow start anymore. Having to step up only during the second half would be very dangerous for a win.

Bout the recent games, Archers are perfectly fine but you cannot discount their adjustments for the acting head coach, Jack Santiago.

    Animo.

BIG MEN OF THE ARCHERS WAKE UP!!!!

Is it because Coach Franz is not around thus some of our players’ focus are not in the game? Take for example that technical foul called against Rico because he hanged to the rim? And that happened when Adamson was in the lead? Or where they having a run? Anyway…with a game as important as yesterday’s..they can not afford to commit such stupid errors like that. If I am gonna be honest…I am so disappointed with the way Rico is playing this season. As one of the remaining seniors in the team..he should be able to help JVEE in every aspect of the game. He’s playing below his capacity..I can only remember one game where he showed his true potential. And I think he was named player of the game that time. I was so appalled yesterday in one of the sequence where everyone was going for the rebound…big men from ADU was at it yet of all the people to get the DEFENSIVE REBOUND for us was the second smallest man in the court..JVEE CASIO!! Where was Rico? Where’s PJ Walsham? Speaking of Pj Walsham..he’s already in the last year of his eligibility yet it seems as if he learned nothing in the past years. By this time…we should be seeing vast improvement on his part yet he’s given less and less playing minutes with the way he is playing.

I have FAITH in what the boys can do…but I still can’t help but be very wary in our upcoming game against Ateneo. While our big men is playing with less energy…they on the other seem to be improving every game.

In all the wins that we had…it was mainly because of our guards and wingmen. We simply cannot go into battle with them playing like this! WE NEED EVERYONE IN THE TEAM TO STEP UP! JVEE alone cannot win every game for us!!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KING ARCHER!!! =)

  • nemesis enforcer

I agree. Our team has a tendency to play loose at the start and only step up down the stretch. We were lucky at Adamson lang kalaban pero what if malakas na team like Ateneo and FEU. Dapat sa umpisa pa lang, todo bigay na.

  • Sexyjoyacks

We, the Dabawenyos, just wanted to greet King JV A HaPPY Birthday! Wishing you all the best in life and for us You are our MVP! Go JV! MAy you have a lot of points, rebounds and assists on your game against ateneo! Go MVP!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPTAIN JVEE!!!!

You set a great example! We notice those fierceness in your eyes, we know you badly want to get the championship this year!

Come on Archers! We need absolute teamwork!

Kudos to those who really delivers once they get their time to play on court! Check out Simon this time diving in to get those points… and the others who contributed, fantastic!

Where’s our man Rico? Come on dude! You cant afford to play loose, its not cool! And, your free throws please!

We’re up against Ateneo.. I believe the key to this is teamwork and deliverance, no taking for granted every minutes on court!

We’re keeping the faith! We know you guys can make it!

  • marts_chua

i don’t know if our guys were lazy or overconfident yesterday. just because we’re playing adamson, it doesn’t mean we should take them for granted. we should be playing at a high level at all times. now that the final four is coming, we should give it 100% from start to finish. rico, please play smarter. we can’t afford blunders like that useless technical foul when we play much better teams like ateneo. they have a much better team but i think we can win the title this year. we just have to play like the la salle teams from 98 to 01 – great defense from start to end.

  • BoomBoom

this what happens to the archers when coach franz is not there.. buti pa ust nung ust vs. ue round two nung nawala si coach pido nag fire up pa yung team pero ngayon nung nawala si coach franz wala parang sabog..

  • http://asdasd archer_fanatic

Yes the archers should PLAY LIKE THERE’S NO TOMRROW!!

  • growling archer

i got really disappointed when rico hanged on the rim..was he out of his mind?it’s not enough that you know how to play basketball..you should also know the rules! play smarter rico! if only coach franz was there..
good luck on your game on saturday. hope you can make it even without coach franz. everyone has to step up.
    ANIMO!

  • edgie_boy

i failed to watched the 2nd half of the game. good thing they won, otherwise they’ll end up at no. 3. they’re not assured of a win against the deadly ateneo team. everyone must step up, not only JV, the only consistent player in the current roster of dlsu. the 2nd smallest, yet plays big for his size. whatever happened to the big men of dlsu? JV can’t do it alone. The game against ateneo this saturday is crucial, therefore they should start strong and play as a team to defend against rabeh. good luck on saturday. belated happy birthday king archer JV.
