Postgame Bullets: DLSU 46 UE 65

  • The result was not unexpected. UE is a veteran team, and is expected to crowd FEU and Ateneo for top honors. Paul Lee showed why he is regarded as one of the premier guards by slicing through the Archer defense to deliver several drop passes to the UE bigs for gimme shots under the basket. Fortunately for us, UE did not perform much better, missing several easy shots and making almost as many errors. But the Warriors settled down in the 3rd quarter to win comfortably.
  • Given the current composition of the team, a final 4 appearance is probably realistic, but I wouldn’t count on much more. The rookies are now being exposed to the much tougher environment of the UAAP, and some jitters, uncertainty, and errors were to be expected. Franz gave the rookies ample playing time, and the veterans didn’t get too much floor time. The offensive patterns of the Archers were still not smooth, several blown passes, travelling errors, hurried or carelessly taken shots. Charge it to the learning curve of this young team. Setting records has never been Franz’s cup of tea, and the 46 points scored today will be forgotten in the overall scheme of things.
  • In everything, there’s an upside. Today’s game was kinda ugly, but the team can’t play much worse than this. They will learn, get better, and start showing why they’re expected to be a contender in a couple of years. In the next games, we’ll probably start seeing flashes of the brand of Archer ball that we’re used to.
  • It’s still early in the season, no need to panic. Let’s enjoy the growth and development of this team. It is exciting to watch, sometimes frustrating, but once it gets its act together, will be something to watch. In the meantime, let’s sit and enjoy the ride. And cheer them on.

I only saw the first 2 quarters (because i had to leave for church). From what i saw there was WAY too much 1 on 1 play especially during the 2nd quarter during the half-court sets. And when they DO try to run a play everyone seems to be out of sync with one another (which is very uncharacteristic of a Lasalle team) which caused alot of turn overs. I’m assuming they will execute better next game mainly because Franz is way too good of a coach to have 2 back to back games where his boys are out of sync and 2 is because i just want to see Lasalle win. And a bit offtopic Paul Lee’s ankle breaker on Simon Atkins was sick!

this is bad, I don’t want to be negative but what makes you think that they’ll win against a division 1 team like UE while they lost to a mediocre team like lyceum? Let’s be real, if the archers cannot find a true leader and a true go-to guy in the next couple of games, then this season is over and final 4 is a goal for next season

Really unexpected about the score…the team is still adjusting from one another but wasn’t really expecting that low score. Anyway, hopefully the team can recover and gel in time for the next games…too early to tell as well but i still pray for their success…our success…keep the faith!!! Animo!!!

I’m sure the necessary adjusments will be made in time for the FEU game. The good old DLSU Diesel engine has yet to warm up, but it will warm up.

In all honesty, this team still has a long way to go. Compared to the rookie laden team of 2003, there is no one willing to take charge. This is the time where the likes of Mangahas and Barua should be taking charge. Even if they do not score, they need to put their foot forward and show that they can be depended on especially during crunch time. From what I saw during the game, they did not do so.

Puro na kasi rookies ang Archers. Di bale. Siguro naman may natutunan sila sa mga pagkakamali nila. Nanibago lang siguro ang mga rookies. Babawi din sila!!! Animo La Salle!!! :D

  • honkytonky

that’s fine.. it was just the first game..

bawi na lang next time.. all the shots made are for Coach Dindo hehe..

The team is very new. ALL of them. I say that because in the last season we were solely dependent on Casio and Maierhofer and once in a while Mangahas.

First of all, the team needs to find its confidence. I didn’t see the confidence we had in the past.

Second, people have to take control of the game. Where is the La Salle team that used to dictate the tempo of the game? Where is that “angas”?

The loss yesterday was not surprising. UE is a very talented team and most of them are veterans.

I hope the team gets their act together soon. I am looking forward to watching the rest of the games.

Whatever happens, I still have faith. ANIMO!

I thinks this isn’t really our year.I’m not surprised that we got beaten so badly.Maybe in 2-3 years na tau makakabalik ng final four hehe…

  • growling_archer

i think the veterans and sophomores need to step up..the rookies probably are adjusting. and maybe franz hasn’t found the right blending of players.they shouldn’t rely on one or two guys on the floor..they shiukd work as a team. our role is to cheer for them more!! after all, WE ARE GANG GREEN..KEEPER OF THE FAITH!!

  • weh

mas magaling pa ata ung mga rookies kesa sa veterans eh. bright future for la salle…:)

It’s like 2003 again, on so many levels.

That said, I have tempered expectations. Not that I can’t see this team winning, because I can. But sometimes, things must get worse before they get better. Growth takes time, and individuals grow at their own paces. It can happen this season or it may not happen at all.

I am fully prepared to watch our young team go on a miracle run and crash the Final 4 party, or see them stumbe into confusion and crash and burn out of the Final 4 altogether. I’ll just cheer them on and support them, either way.

Whatever happens on this just-started-but-shaping-up-to-be-crazy journey, it will be fun, and I am determined to shout out my archer pride and enjoy the ride =)

I agree that Mangahas has to step up, nevermind that Hyram is the captain. Right now James Mangahas is the best player on that team he has to act like it.
