I'm a stats guy and as a former coach, I always paid attention to these because they don't lie. A FG percentage of 24% is downright horrible, just dismal! That basically means that your team is making 1 of 4 attempts and that, people, will NOT win you games! Two other stats that I always pay attention to are turnovers and rebounds, especially defensive rebounds in ratio to offensive rebounds. Turnovers that give up points can be worked on and corrected in practice but you have to limit the opponent to one shot on offense and your team has to be able to steal a few offensive rebounds during the game! Those three issues are concentration issues more than anything else so the players on the court have to pay more attention to the game than anything else going on around them! Shooting 50% from the FT line is also not a good stat and that too needs working on during practice! According to the final stats, DLSU lost by 19 points so if they had made 100% of their free throws, it would have been a 10-point loss and if they gave up half the turnovers that led to 18 of UE's points, then we have a very close game at the end! It's not that the DLS players are bad, it's just that they need to shore up on certain fundamentals of playing this game!

While Archers are still soul searching, the rest are already on their "right" track. Even NU which I think a legitimate final four contender in this season. I hope this kind of blowout game might trigger something: Archer's Heart of the champion attitude. ANIMO

we have a big problem this season. we have no reliable big man and we don't have a guy that can step up. remember how we used to have a ritualo or cardona or yeo or casio to make big baskets whenever needed? we don't have that with this team. i thought we could rely on mangahas and barua to step up but they just don't have the ability to create. here are other things i saw from yesterday's game. ferdinand and co have shown no improvement at all. they have no post moves, no offensive abilities and no scoring capabilities at all. our wingmen like mangahas, malabes and barua can;t score on a consistent basis. the shooting from the outside was really bad. our point guards (atkins and tolentino) handle the ball too much that we end up having to take bad shots because the shot clock is running down. i also expected more from villanueva but he just kept forcing bas sholts inside. webb also kept forcing the issue. i think he;s trying to do too much that sometimes he's out of control. and the rookies, confidence i think is the problem. i remember having 8 rookies in 2003. but we were able to show up every game and play decent basketball. the reason was cardona and yeo were there to step up everytime "natataranta ang team". we don't have that kind of leader with this team. i know i can't judge the team based on one game. i hope franz pumaren can come up with an answer. but based on yesterday's performance, even JESUS wouldn't know what to do. I love LA SALLE and i hope that was just an off-night for the whole team. but, what if that was the real thing? then this just might turn out to be a really long season of woes for us.
