I'll give you a little lesson of how to mix chess and La Salle's defensive strategies. What is the most powerful piece on a chess board? It's the queen right? She is also the most powerful at home, I tell you. Hahahaha giving away my henpecked nature?
Anyway, what is the optimum location on the chess board to place a queen? The answer is the center of the board. From here, her power radiates in 8 different directions.
At its original position at the start of the game (beside the king along the edge of the board, her power diminishes to 5 directions. The queen is weakest at the corners. It can only go three different directions.
So what the heck is he talking about, you may wonder. NOW lets go to basketball.
Our defense. What is its first objective? To steal the ball of course. Easier said than done. If you can't steal it, what's the second objective? To tap it out of bounds as often as possible. Why? Because when you tap the ball out, the inbounder can no longer traverse either the baseline or the sideline. Meaning, he cannot run in either direction. He will be called for travelling, unlike after a score, the inbounder can run along the baseline to find a passing angle.
So, given the queen's power lesson, where do you want to tap the ball out to????? Answer. The CORNERS. Again why? Go back to the queen's weakest position. Bet you didn't know that there was a tap out strategy huh?
The ANGLES my friends. It gives us a greater chance to steal the inbound, because the angle to pass is limited, and gives time for our press defense to float around for a possible steal. Of course you know about the strategy of double teaming along the baseline, using the line as a third guard. Don't you notice a third guard behind the two pressers? He is the floater. He is actually the one with the best chance to steal the ball, waiting for a weak or a badly angled throw. That's called the trap.
I bet a thousand bucks you don't watch basketball THAT way huh? I do. Isn't that fun???
I don't want to give away more. Of course coaches know this crap (sorry for that). Remember, defense is our key. If we can't score, they can't either if we steal the ball, rebound it, or tap it out of bounds in an unfavorable position. We are limited to only 40 game minutes, and the less time they touch the ball, the less time they have to score. In a game of ugly ball, guess who is king? Not the eagle. That my dear La Sallite's is a glimpse of how coaches think, and how La Salle plays basketball. Animo!!!

Agreed. The approval process means that those posts deemed as abusive or offensive will never appear on the site. It's amusing how they will repeatedly try to slip one past the administrators. Baka makalusot? As the song goes, "di na natuto".

It's really funny how some insecure guests would repeatedly attempt to post trash here when they know very well (i assume they do) that all comments are subject to approval before they can be read/seen by the public.

Hey man, ever wonder why you get ZERO replies/reactions to your posts? Hello!!! no one can see it!!!

And after many attempts you still dont get it. Kinda stupid dont you think?

You're probably drooling in disgust right now.

It's a good thing that the people who state their opinions on this site are critical thinkers, giving La Sallians different views and angles on the game, which makes it more exciting and fun to watch!! Good job everyone!! Hope this continues!!

Atkins actually hit his shots, it's a miracle. He's not as useless afterall.

Good performance by Marata. He should give some tips to Barua on how to sink threes.

Nice effort overall, but still rough around the edges. IF they play like they did here consistently, they may be on track for a surprise Final Four appearance.

Congratulations archers!! You definitely deserved the win.

Sunday's game will be a totally different story. UST is a good team, with awesome rookies and a very versatile forward in Dylan Ababou. Hope we can pull it through in that game.
