Steph up into Cruz control on Opening Day

They may have shown some rustiness at the start but in the end, the Lady Spikers proved that they are still the team to beat this UAAP season. The defending champions started their campaign on a high note with a come-from-behind win over pre-tournament favorite and recently crowned V-League champion UST Tigresses 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11 today.

With the win, the Lady Spikers got some payback against the very same team that gave them a straight-set beating in the University Games last October.

Stephanie Mercado and Charleen Cruz led the team with 28 hits and 21 points respectively. Next game is against Ateneo this Friday.

I Like how the scores of 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th got paired up. they just traded numbers!
Go La Salle! We’re still gonna be the champs! Will see you in the finals again.

Just a suggestion. I think we should have a thread for the men’s and women’s volleyball team..

By the way, I was impressed by the heart of the defending champions yesterday. They just did not quit. The UST Lady Spikers dominated the attacks department (54-71) but we got them in the blocks (14-7) and service (10-5) departments.

But here’s the most important thing, in a game between two of the best volleyball programs in the country wherein whoever winks first dies, DLSU capitalized on smart plays by making those tricky sets and placings and they committed less errors compared to their taller rivals (20 vs. 29). It was a total team effort from receiving to passing to spiking and smart plays with Mercado, Cruz and Alarca combined for 60 of 107 total points of DLSU.

I hope that they can play that championship-caliber level of play all the time or even upgrade it game by game. Hey, the rookie Siy has the timing for those big blocks…

    ANIMO LA SALLE!!!!

For the game against UST is great….why??because match na match ung even though manilla santos and michelle datuin are ont in the line-up…nahirapan din ang la salle in the 1st set maybe nangangapa pa sila in their new member…I have a suggestion from coach RAMIL DE JESUS na teach #16 SIY to spike the ball hard because SIY have potential she’s tall and good in BLOCKING DEPARTMENT….for #6 CERVEZA paluin moh ung bola ng pabaon and wag kang mahuli sa block….. BUT DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY LADY SPIKERS IS ONE TO BEAT IN THE UAAP ……GO LA SALLE ANIMO LA SALLE!!!!…

pahabol…one more thing is the defense of the lady spikers in the back row position is weak.wala sila sa position para kunin ung bola…

I agree with you aRcherRsz_05. Rookie joanne siy should put great power on her spikes because she is tall and she seldoms get blocked.
Don’t be disturbed by the height of your opponents. You have the spirit of the Champions. Aim for the Gold. I know you can do it. Ask strength and guidance from God always.
Improve your combination plays as well as the blockings and floor defense.
–I hope my message will reach the Lady Spikers and the Coaching staff.
Best of luck on your upcoming games, guys. “Let’s do it again. Animo La Salle”

-I’m from University of St. La Salle pala. hehehe. God Bless sa lahat.
