Despite a heartbreaker on Valentine’s Day, Lady Spikers still remain on top.

In their last elimination round match, the Lady Spikers absorbed its first loss of the season today as they fall to the UST Tigresses 25-23, 20-25, 28-26, 16-25, 12-15. Despite this setback, the team still remains on top of the standings and will have the twice-to-beat advantage in the semis.

Nice game, UST deserved the win because they were steadier in the endgame. Some uncertainty crept into the Lady Spikers’ game, and that resulted in their play being less sharp and aggressive as they were in the past. Not to take anything away from UST, but those last 2 service reception errors were definitely unforced errors, balls which our team should have fielded cleanly. And the serve continued to be a double edged sword, netting us some quick points but also giving some away, but what hurt was that they occurred in the 4th and 5th sets. Perhaps the team just wanted the win too much. That loss was a bump on the road to the championship.

To the team: keep your eyes on the ultimate goal, the championship. The game today was effectively a no-bearing game, so nothing was really lost. Remember, a clean sweep of the elimination rounds will not make any change in the F4, it’s still a 1-4 and 2-3 pairing with the 1st and 2nd placed teams toting a twice to beat advantage. For today, however, UST has bragging rights. But only for today.

However, UST had to play its best just to eke out a 5-set victory. A review of the game tapes will be a good exercise in scouting the probable finals opponents. The coaches and players will definitely learn from the loss.

However, there’s still a game to win on Saturday before they can concentrate on the finals. Adamson is the lone barrier to getting to the finals, and the Lady Spikers should dispatch them next weekend.

Note: The Green Spikers likewise lost their game today against Ateneo. They will have a playoff match with UP for the last slot in the Final 4.

Im proud of dlsu lady spikers. Job well done. nakita ko naman yung effort nyo. Good luck sa semis.

to the team: do a strength-weakness strategy, you’re strengths are blocking and attacking, continue on solid blocking and try to execute a more complicated play rather than just do an automatic A-quick attack if maganda ang receive because believe me, if the opposing team read A-quick, chances are you’ll be block 80% of the time because nasa gitna lang at mababa ang bola. In my opinion, your weaknesses are reception, coverage and service errors. Yung service errors magagawan kagad ng paraan because we understand na nilalagyan nyo ng karga yung services but you guys must admit na drop ball coverage ang isa sa kahinaan niyo. Fix your weaknesses firs thing tomorrow or the next day and our team will do great. Good luck to us all

forget all things that have been hounding you (sweep?) somehow maski you are not thinking about it…it will somehow be planted in the back of your heads. also it is good that you all are not blaming the lack of sleep due to that fire sa neighborhood nyo. okay guys….back to business na and defend your crown!!!!

that loss was a wake-up call for DLSU. They can win it but they had lost their focus and perseverance, although 5-set ang game. Off-timing yung blockings nila and wala masyadong kills kc nbabasa ng kalaban, di gaya ng UST na sipag sa spikes tpz sinabayan p ng magandang blocks. I think the pressure was not handled well by the team, kc dami tlga ng errors.

it was one hell of a game, and both teams really played their best.ust and la salle are obviously equally-matched and you could always expect a 5-setter whenever these two teams meet.for dlsu, i especially admire mercado, allarca and siy.while for ust, its tabaquero, maizo, ortiz, banaticla among others.for me,these teams are the creme de la creme of philippine collegiate volleyball.i hope both teams dispose their rivals and reach the finals this saturday so that we could all look forward to a classic finals duel.go uste! animo la salle!

A loss is a loss. The team just has to take it and learn from it. No shame in it. It may even fuel more interest in the games going into the semi-finals and the championship. I’d rather have the team taste defeat now in the eliminations than in the semis and in the championship. It’s a reminder that the team is not invincible. The team has all the ingredients to win the championship. They have already proven this. They just need to focus and teamwork will do the rest. ANIMO LA SALLE

I was there yesterdday and i literally lost 3700php to watch the game.. it’s really so heartbreaking to see both men’s and women’s team lose. anyway, both ateneo from men’s division and UST from women’s deserve the win in all fairness.. gudlcuk with the next match.. this should burn us all up! go DLSU!

This loss is a good thing to come this early rather have it in the finals because the team will now know there weakness and have time do something about it with the help of coach Ramil sure to fix the problem on there game to train them more and make the team more stronger.

Consideration DLSU Lady s pikers fan like me
consider the fact why they loss to UST
Sunday the team didn’t have enough sleep for Saturday game because of the fire started in a house in front dorm that’s why they seemed tired in the 4th and 5th set of that why they loss in that game

  • John Vincent

I really felt bad last Sunday because of the lost of Lady Spikers but it was a nice game kahit no bearing yung game parang your watching championship game. iba talaga kayo. anyway i always pray for you to retain the championship, go lasalle! I love you lady in jersey 3, ALARCA.

i believe that ust did play better than dlsu. this is very evident with their plays.. ust dominated the attacks and had some good time placing it wherever they want.. they had good blocks too.. even steph mercado’s hard spikes were blocked and read by ust that’s why 80% of her shots were off-speed or drop shots. almost all the people i talked with about the game noticed steph mercado’s soft touches on the ball throughout the game. our floor defense became weak also as well as the blocks. i think, ust practiced well on how they will get through the blocks of dlsu..

but it’s time to move on.. match against ust is over.. adamson is our next opponent. let’s continue to support the team. i wanna see a rematch against ust in the finals to bring back the dlsu-ust volleyball rivalry but on the other hand, i also want ust to lose to ateneo to give birth to dlsu-admu rivalry in volleyball..

  • charlie

@rafael, good thing nabanggit mo yung fire that started in front of their dorm kasi may palusot ka (meaning, weak sila..they weren’y able to adjust in that kind of unexpected situation)..saka nahilo ako sa english mo.peace ^_^ (there vs their; lost vs loss)

well, the elimination round is over. kita-kits sa Finals guys!

  • iam

It was really a heart breaker last Sunday but i’ve realized that after the first round, because they had no loss, the play that they showed to us is not going high, it’s only consistent but there’s no improvement with there plays while the other teams did improve a lot, that’s why it’s a good thing that UST woke them up this early para tumaas ang level ng play nila. pero i’m not saying they are not playing good in the second round, mahirap naman talagang magkeep ng unblemished record. i’m just saying itaas na nila level ng play to the fullest! Goodluck DLSU :)

kulang lng sa tulog ang La Salle kaya natalo..D

  • enox_xone

i think the main problem of the ladies is that they somewhat feel intimidated by their toughest opponent. It’s mind over matter guys. Build up the guts and confidence in your plays and you will surely win. Have more variety in your attacks. It’s not all about power. If you feel that the your hit is going to get blocked, just swipe it off the hands of the blocker.

    Just enjoy guys..
don’t get pressured. It’s just a game. You have nothing to lose.
.. losing in the game doesn’t make you less as lasallians. We are here, guys! We right behind your backs every step of the way.

    Animo La Salle!

Blimey!!! It was my first time to watch UAAP Volleyball action live!!! I was there together with my friends having big blasts celebrating my 14th b-day!! Surely the game was a heart breaker for me. I’m an avid fan of DLSU Lady Archers and yet they got their first defeat last Sunday! Ika nga: NADUNGISAN ANG RECORD..:(( Bawi lang tayo!!! wag sumuko!!! I think the main weakness of DLSU- LA is their floor defense. Ok na yung blocking.

Go ALARCA!!! Idol talaga kita, galing mo mag-block at yung service mo kill/ace always! wag mo ibahin serve mo sana laging jump float! GOHING, for me is the best libero/receiver of the season, you deserved the title that was given to you last season: rookie of the year! you improved alot and your receives can match up to MANILLA’s

ENJOY TAYO AND BRING HOME THE BACON!!! CHAMPS:) ANIMO LA SALLE!!

GO DLSU! ANIMO LA SALLE! :)
