How come LA Revilla’s not there?

Cleared to play by Doctors but of course he has not played for almost a year so he has to take some time to regain his old form

  • terry

Good thing there were individual pics of each player so as to familiarize ourselves with the incoming rookies. Nice work.

    Thanks Sir

  • chuck norris

    sino captain?

    Atkins and Ferdinand

  • George

Another challenging year for La Salle’s bigs especially if coach Dindo will employ a running game. As seen on the pre-season tourneys, the big men from the other schools are quite ripe in “age” as compared to the boys in Taft. I hope Papot, Ferdinand, Jovet, Yutien, Aiki, and Maui can handle all the physicality all season long.

  • DS

Small Ball indeed. Even with Franz at the helm, DLSU’s system was always guard oriented but we still had dependable bigmen like Sta Maria, Ramos, Sharma, Gaco, Cabatu and Maierhofer. Now its seems we are absolutely dwarfed with only Ferdinand as the legit post-up man. The other bigmen are more of quick forwards rather than the behind-the-basket types.

Anyway I still believe the team can still make a good run this season. Good luck to them

  • Lorenzo del Carmen

    very exciting team indeed!!!

  • erigmo

The only dependable guy in this team is Joshua Webb. I don’t think this team will make the Final 4.

  • K

Final 4 itself is an accomplishment for dlsu… more than that is a bonus

  • ediboy

Where is Van Opstal and Vigil? Will they play for us this season? Please answer.

    NO

  • voltaire

our young team (7 rookies, 4 sophomores) will play with passion and animo!

  • verdant rooter

If this is the final roster, it really is lacking in ceiling but hopefully will make up for the height disadvantage with speed and defense in time for the UAAP wars. This year’s team is far from ideal, just the same let’s rally behind them and support them all the way – win or lose. In my opinion this team will get to the final four. AN1MO LA SALLE!

  • junipero

We hope for the best and will always be there……

  • Mac

Where is LA Revilla? Joshua Webb relive the Cardona-Yeo days of la salle. The never say die attitude and put some ANGAS dapat. Beat Ateneo! Animo La Salle!

If you read the previous comments, you would know the answer already

  • animofan

Let us all support the team no matter what. Keep the Faith!!!
Hope this season will be a better one for the Archers!!! ANIMO LASALLE!!!

Is Jed M. no longer in the team?

I’m really excited for the upcoming season…Bring back the glory to Taft guys!!!

Jed Manguera is in Team B

  • Proud Archer

Well, we play the cards we are dealt with. I will make a bold prediction though. This team WILL make it to the final four. Let me just elaborate:

    1. I’ve seen this team score over 90 points a game. I have also seen them score less than 60 points a game. When our offense is on, we can score with the best of them. So on offense, it’s a 50-50 proposition.

    2. Our defense will always be constant. But we have to be very quick rotating to the corners, but at the same time anticipating the pass to the post. In the San Beda game at the Fil-oil tournament,, our press was beaten repeatedly after the ball crossed the half line, by a guard going to either of the corners and either shooting a free jumpshot or giving an entry pass into the post. Therefore, I think our forwards should be as quick in the defensive rotation as our guards.

Our guards are the key defensive men, as well as our key offensive threats. Therefore, in the rotation, ALL our guards should play every game, and be replaced by one another as often as possible, so as not to tire anyone out. Only when a combination clicks on the court should the personnel be left in the court for a longer duration

    3. Alvin Vosotros should stick to a short game ala Richard Hamilton. Go to the open spaces 15 feet and in and hit the open short jumpers. He and Joshua Webb will be key for us in offense.

    4. Joel Tolentino has to shine. He has the skills and the shooting range. He and Almond Vostros are our key offensive guards. Nico Elorde is our best one on one defensive guard while Simon Atkins is our best point guard. Amongst the four, it’s Joel’s jumpshots that we need in a slow game. Joel should be used as forward, thereby extending his playing time.

    5. The bigs Yutien, Papot, Jovet, and Ferdinand. Only one thing is needed from them. Rebound, rebound, rebound. Add Maui to this corps. He should also just concentrate on rebounds and be the garbageman I have been looking for in this team. Maui doesn’t need to shoot. The guards and other forwards will do it for him.

    6. Jarelan Tampus is my wildcard. He is not in our system YET. Also, he has tremendous offensive skills and a great fighting heart. Let’s see if he get’s his stride as the tournament progresses.

    7. I reserved Joshua for last. He should ACT like our main man. His head should be the coolest among all our players. He cannot play mind games with the opponents because he himself is affected by this. Psyching himself to think that he is the most important player we have right now will make him realize that he has to be inside all the time solely to play basketball. He really doesn’t realize still that his skills are superstar material.

THEREFORE, if we do these things consistently, I believe we are in the final four, thus my prediction. After reaching the final 4 and we are still doing these things consistently, then bahala na si Batman. And Archer’s, through the years, more often than not, kakampi natin si Batman. :-D

    ANIMO!!!!!!

  • lou

    @ proud archer

you have some good points, especially the last bullet. Just to add to our press being beat, the blue birds use a three guard line-up (or at least 3 good ball handlers) whenever they face us, that’s why the press was not much of a factor last season against them

  • Spectator

I personally think that the line-up for DLSU this season is quite competitive. There are a lot of factors that could win games rather than looking at the height of the team. The following factors will be the key for the Archers success this coming season:

    1) Decision Making – specially for the guards. It is true that the system is guard oriented however, it is not an excuse for the guards to look to shoot every time they have the ball. They should let their bigs get involved in the offense so as to ease their burden in the offense. Some of the bigs of DLSU have a good feel in positioning and the guards need to recognize these instances to open up the game inside. In this regard i seriously wonder why tolentino was included in the line-up because he doesnt have the IQ to be a guard in an structured offense. He shoots the ball wildly while the others are positioning and starting the play, and more importantly he doesnt know when to pass. He passes only when he is in a tight situation and in the process creating turn-overs (Same is true for Webb, he surely can score but he needs to know when to pass and the right time to pass and not to force the issue each time he has the ball; by doing so he would be a triple threat and not only a medium threat scorer who is lazy on the defense).

    2) Perimiter Shooting and Outside Shooting – It is a basic basketball fact that if you hit your outside shots and perimiter shots the defense extends and opens up opportunities for drives and in the process creating many mismatches, kick-outs and drive-draw situations that could work wonders for the team. May it be a zone defense or man defense, shooting is a constant for a team to win. The premise, of course, is for the team to hit a +50% rate in outside shots.
For this factor, the bigs are crucial because if they can hit their perimiter shots, it would negate the “height advantage” of the other teams.

    3) Defense – the press is there, the difference will be the proper and precise coordination and execution of the press. On this factor the bigs who are said to be lacking in ceiling actually becomes an advantage for the team because they are actually more mobile compared to the other bigs of the other teams. (Although i dont think that the team is undersized this season)

    4) The development of Maui and Jovet – They are Juniors now, look for them to mature this season and take more offensive loads rather than just garbage guys that most old-school basketball analysts and commentators in this site view them to be. Dont forget, Maui was pirated to play in Japan in HS while Jovet used to be a member of the first RP youth squad and a HS MVP contender in the juniors along with Joshua and Marata.

    5) A new coach and a new variation in the system – The franz era is gone, though the defensive system is a mirror of the franz system but the offensive system is a different story as dindo has tricks up in his sleeve that would definitely throw the other teams in disarray…

  • 10409114

I’ve always liked Jovet’s game, hope he can be the difference this year!! Plus, i still believe in Gab Banal.. I hope he gets into game shape and has better handling.. It’s great UAAP’s just around the corner and i’ll love watching them this year! ANIMO DLSU!!

  • Miguel building

Where is arvie bringas?what happened to him?

    http://www.greenarchers.ph/3234/thank-you-arvie-bringas/

  • baby-z

so, the van opstal kid didnt go to la salle after all?

sayang yun bringas. cant believe they let him go for “academic deficiencies”. tutor lang katapat nun.

we’ll all be there to watch and show our support, but let’s face it, hirap mag-cheer when there’s nothing to cheer about.

still, here’s hoping dindo can pull something out of his hat.

  • dlsudiehard

i’m hoping that coach will come up with a number of surprises on the defensive end. i also hope to see less of the press. one thing about the press is that most teams have a ready solution for it. especially the team from loyola, they deal with it by putting in at least three good ball handlers. and another thing, the press just zaps the energy of our players especially during the latter stages of the tourney since they have been applying it from the start of the summer leagues.

  • Noynoy Aquino

no one has pointed out the team’s bad free-throw stats the past two seasons yet. i hope they do something about these numbers. good run at the fil-oil cup, almost there, but not quite. however, iba pa rin pag sa UAAP na… this is the big league. and everyone–even the rookies–are urged to step up a notch higher. and i agree with all of you, joshua webb should act the part. he has yet to mature inside the court.

  • erigmo

Check out the Sports section of the Sunday Inquirer (July 4). You’ll find Bringas in a new UAAP school uniform.

  • ID 102

@ erigmo – I think that is Arvie’s younger brother Mark Anthony of the FEU Tamaraws.

  • jp_abcede

Mark Anthony is Arvie’s elder brother. He used to play for SSC-R before transferring to FEU.

  • armchair archer

THat is Arvie. He’s already with FEU’s Team B.

  • Iverose

It would be nice to have more info on the players. Height, age, high school, current course, any accolade before going to DLSU (NCAA MVP, Mythical, etc,)

Hi yes we will do that. We always provide those player info for the past 2 years. There’s just some delay on the information that we need. Regards

  • Clueless

    What happened to bagatsing?

    He has already graduated .

  • JethrotrueLasallian

well,.. i saw all of them a while ago,.. i watched their training in the 9thfloor of razon! and based on my observation,. even the rookies have developed skills….

  • mike cortez

Honestly i don’t think la salle would go far with this roster.. gone are the days when we used to have dependable guys like a ren ren ritualo , joseph yeo , mike cortez , rico m. & casio… they would face alot of match up problems from other teams..Feu for example.. Anyways lets just hope for the best and pray that our men in green would perform better this year.

  • http://kproxy.com Charles

green archers is the best team for me…
at ang pina ka paborito ko sa lahat ng rookies nyo ay si tampus jarelan…
sana gamitin nyo si tampus at bigyan nyo nang mahabang time sa pag laro…
alam kung kaya ng bata na yan magdala ng team patungong finals…

  • karl velhagen

does anyone have a heads-up on the dlsz junior team?

  • chillax

hi. what happened to the veteran players of DLSU (James Mangahas, Peejay Barua, etc.)

    Graduated obviously.

  • garagegurl

simon atkins, maui villanueva, sam marata and joshua webb will do it for dlsu this year. they have improved so much and they have the skills. they can still improve more and more as the days go by. i believe la salle will make it to final 4. they just have to be consistent. :-) good luck team!!!

  • dugong berde

when will Ian Umali and Norbie Torres of team B play?

Obviously not this year. Probably next

  • Keisha Matsumoto

  • :)

will maui villanueva and l.a. revilla get to play next uaap season?

It’s too early to know about this and besides, it’s the coach who will decide on who will make it.
