St. Benilde aims for a better showing in upcoming V-League

College of Saint Benilde seeks to perform better this time around as the Second Conference of the 7th Shakey’s V-League unfolds this Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.

Coming off a quarterfinals finish the previous campaign, the Lady Blazers return with an intact lineup although the official roster released recently by the league did not list lefty LC Quemada and Zhar Velez.

The team of coach Thelma Barina-Rojas will be led by veterans Giza Yumang and Ren Agero along with Rossan Fajardo and Wena Miran.

Returning as guest player is Jennifer Manzano, who made her debut last conference. She is from sister school La Salle-Dasmarinas where she was helped the Lady Patriots win a number of NCRAA titles as well as several beach volleyball championships.

St Benilde makes its debut on Sunday against newcomer National University in the first game at 2 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will be led by Mervic Mangui, the third leading scorer in last year’s UAAP wars, and new acquisition Dindin Santiago who transferred from league powerhouse University of Santo Tomas.

Other squads joining are San Sebastian, Ateneo, Adamson, Far Eastern University, Lyceum and another rookie team in Perpetual Help.

UST begged off from joining to let its players take a much needed rest while at the same time concentrate on their studies.
