Green Archers outclassed Red Warriors for 2nd win

Nice Shirt Kid ;)

The Green Archers played heads-up defense and demonstrated superb teamwork for 40 minutes as they fashioned out an 82-63 demolition job over the UE Red Warriors today. The team capitalized on UE’s shallow backcourt and inexperienced frontline to force several turnovers and botched plays. The excellent game of the Green Archers overshadowed Paul Lee’s 25-point production. He may have gotten his usual numbers but this wasn’t enough to answer La Salle’s juggernaut defense and fastbreak offense.

La Salle appeared to be the taller team in this match as Ferdinand, Maui, Yutien, and most especially rookie Papot Paredes asserted their dominance on the boards and in the paint as they limited UE’s second chance shots. Papot was a revelation today as he scored 10 points, collared 8 boards and swatted 6 shots. Birthday boy Simon and the rest of the backcourt did well in hounding their counterparts on the defensive end, leading to so many open opportunities to attack the basket.

Just like in their first game, La Salle scored at the 80s while limiting their opponent to roughly 60 points. As the defense goes, the offense will follow.

This may perhaps be La Salle’s best all-around performance for a long time. If only they can play like this consistently.

I like Papot Paredes. he showed that he has the potential and lift the team.

Also for Yutien, Marata and Maui.

    Good job guys!!

  • Kalabao

The team showed how it’s possible to win with defense! Great job!

next game is against admu, here are somethings we have to remember and watch out for

DLSU have not won against them for 6 straight games (uaap season 71, season 71 finals and season 72)

Back court match-up: Atkins vs. Salamat as the seniors
Front-Court: At July 18, 2010 both the front court (DLSU and ADMU) did well as justin chua had a career game and papot paredes lead the block party.

Style: Both teams now are applying a fast-paced offense while defense is still their priority

    It’s DLSU-ADMU and ADMU-DLSU, period

there were still glaring lapses in the team game, like out of bounds ball passing and some poor selection shots. but this incidence are outnumbered by good team play.

the team is good against ‘not-so-strong’ teams (UE, UP), i hope they can carry the same confidence, hustle and team work when we battle tougher teams (FEU, ADMU, AdU). but i am keeping the faith and i know that the team has not reached its full potential yet. the green archers will still get better with more games to come.

kudos to coach dindo for good player rotation.

    animo!

Again we are catapulted to outer space with this big win. I hope the momentum continues when we meet Ateneo for our next game. If the boys play like this come Saturday, there’s a very good chance we can shoot down those bluebirds from Loyola. Norman Black and his wards were spotted watching the DLSU-UE game so they could be preparing well for this encounter. Worried and kabado na siguro sila.

DLSU’s Papot Paredes and ADMU’s Justin Chua drew praises for their splendid performance today. But it was Papot’s third game only since joining the DLSU team while Chua has been riding the Eagles bench for three years already. Expect a mighty showdown this coming Saturday.

Kudos to Villanueva, Andrada, Marata, Atkins, dela Paz, Vosotros, and the rest of the guys who delivered for the Archers today. By the way what’s happening to Joshua Webb who’s supposed to be the ‘Go-to’ guy of the team this season? Not much contribution from him after three games? Baka kaya may ini-indang sakit? Parang mas matagal yata siya sa bench kasama ni Gab Banal. I wonder why.

  • garagegurl

i was so shocked with how papot paredes played. he proved to everyone how skilled he is. the rest played well too. especially veteran maui villanueva and sophomore sam marata. im still waiting for joshua webb to get his game back though. what this team needs is consistency. i believe in them. they are young but very talented. teamwork is the key. keep the faith!!! animo la salle!!! :-)

Let’s not forget Coach Dindo Pumaren who continued to coach the team superbly. His use of Paredes and Marata despite their bad game against NU and the up tempo game is suited for our young Green Archers. Defense was the key and Coach Dindo had a defensive scheme that put pressure on UE’s ball carriers rendering Martinez, Zamar and Reyes ineffectual.

    @ verdant rooter

if your the coach and kalat player mo do you think he will get playing minutes?…
and please forget your notion that webb is the go to player of the team..
he just had 1 great game against admu last season but other than that e kalat siya..
webb = kalat = turn overs = bad decision making = pulls down the team cohesion = less playing time got it?…

My child and viewers so deeply sorry for my jumble name instead animo i wrote amino. the energy of triumphant is still with me that’s why it emerges my whole body with hype.

We have such a young team, full of talent and skill, yet very predictably unpredictable. We can be best than all in a game and be worst than ever in another. For the La Salle fans, its a guessing game each game we play. Hope the team matures to consistency at its earliest but like what coach Dindo said on day one he assumed the post, its a 3 year program and yet, we can do pullout surprises and who knows. In the meantime, we can only continue to support our team and be patient, its really a very young team, its capable of all sorts of mistakes, yet it never stops fighting so Animo La Salle!

  • die hard green archer

Joshua Webb has too many turnovers. He needs to practice more on dribbling, side step moves and faking shots to draw fouls… Coach Dindo did a great job rotating the players. I just hope the team will be consistent especially against Ateneo this Saturday.

  • mil

maybe papot read my comment last week…di na sya takot sa bola.hehehe!
coach dindo finally realized we cannot win without big men on the floor. he just have be patient and let our big men play to gain confidence. let’s hope our team peak at the right time.
    D….LS..U…ANIMO LA SALLE!!

  • cosmo

Great TEAM work! KUDOS to Maui and Papot! And like what everyone’s thinking and said the team needs CONSISTENCY! I don’t think they would entertain complacency against the so called THE ATENEO. Let’s shoot them hard on Sat! Beat Ateneo, ANIMO LA SALLE!

  • Fred Cebu

If the archers can play like they did against UP and UE consistently then I can say that they are not just top 4 contenders but a title contender as well! Continue the good work boys! ANIMO DLSU!

  • pat

after watching this game, i cant wait for saturday’s game!!

  • greenie4ever

Expect the team to continue to experience highs and lows. Remember, this is a young team with a lot of rookies. The rookies will make mistakes but the team as a whole have also displayed a fearless attitude: they have shown no hesitation to take the shot when the opportunity is there; they have displayed tenacity to battle for the rebound; they have pushed the tempo to challenge the opposing team to run with them; and they have displayed the stifling defense that was the trademark of past Archer teams. Consistency will come in time and with experience.

  • Fred Cebu

We do have a great bunch of rookies in the current squad. The future looks very rosy indeed.

  • jestoni

Can anyone update me on the injury status of Gab Banal? He’s really good in high school.. Now he’s just sitting on the bench..

  • animofan

Good job guys!!! We came prepared and energized. A solid performance for the Green Archers. Hope we can carry this on to the following games specially this Saturday as we face our archrival Ateneo Blue Eagles. Consistency will spell the difference. Hope they will do the same on Saturday…a solid and prepared Green Archers. Looking forward to a great game on Saturday! Beat Ateneo…ANIMO LASALLE!!!

    @ spectator

Thanks for your equations. I hope he reads your comments so he could improve his game and deliver not misfire. Who could then be our go-to guy? Someone in the mold of a Yeo or Casio in the present line-up. Sino kaya?
