It’s the turn of La Salle-Dasmarinas to make its debut in the Metro Manila collegiate basketball scene as it will compete in the 9th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) season slated on August 11 at the Olivarez College gym in Paranaque City.
The Patriots, who has been a member since the league was launched in 2002, will compete in basketball and volleyball against five other teams.
Joining this year are Colegio de Sta Monica, Philippine School of Business Administration, Technological Institute of the Philippines, host Olivarez College and fellow Dasmarinas-based school Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite.
DLSU-D will play TIP in men’s basketball at 1 p.m. while its men’s and women’s volleyball teams start their campaign on August 17 at the EAC-Cavite gym.
Both volleyball squads, the most successful teams in league history, are the reigning champions while the basketball team seeks to improve on its sixth place finish from last season.
The Patriots’ last Final Four appearance in basketball came in 2005, when they eventually made the finals against powerhouse Emilio Aguinaldo College led then by current pro cager Ronjay Buenafe and Jester Ebuen.
DLSU-D won Game 1 but lost the last two games, including a heartbreaking 71-70 defeat in the pivotal third game at the San Andres gym in Manila.
