No Kidding, Green Archers win big against league-leading Tams

With this morale-boosting 80-66 win over FEU, you can very well say that the Green Archers have already put the disappointment of last week behind them. Playing with renewed energy and focus, La Salle hung tough with the Tams for the first three quarters. And when the right moment came, the backcourt trio of Simon, Oda and Luigi delivered the knock out punch to hand the Tamaraws only their second loss this season.

It was not only a huge win but also a character win as well. Even when everyone thought FEU would pull away at one point after taking an 8 point lead, they were unfazed. The team showed grit and determination, they showed relentless defense and fluid offense for the entire game in contrast to the first game when they wavered in the endgame. FEU’s backcourt duo of Garcia and Romeo, after waxing hot at the beginning of the match were nowhere to be found in the payoff period. Yutien, Papot, Maui and Jovet outhustled the Tam’s big men and did a good job in controlling the boards.

Oda is slowly but surely coming to his own. He may have not topscored for the team, but his daredevil inside incursions ignited a run that enabled the Archers to finally take command of the game and pull away for good. He may just be the slasher-type guy this team badly needs. A Joseph Yeo in the making perhaps.

Props to Simon and Luigi for showing a lot of composure down the stretch. Their timely hits from the outside thwarted any attempt by the Tams to stage another late-game rally similar to their first round encounter.

As we mentioned in our pregame, the Archers can do great things this season with the right mindset. They have already shown that they can beat even the stronger teams. It’s no fluke, this team is for real. If they continue to play like this, we’re in for more surprises.

Good team game by the archers! 26-9 in the 4th quarter. That’s something. On to the next…

Yeah, you’re right. Ferdinand is slowly redeeming himself. I saw his hustle on the court; pouring his heart out. :)

Congratulations to the team. Animo La Salle!

This is a big game for us because if we land the number 4 spot, most likely we would face FEU, and the team knows now how to beat them. Till the next game!!

    Animo!!!!

I love the crowd’s reaction when Ferdi made 2 straight Free Throws.. PRICELESS!

And Webb using a headband yesterday made his appearance look like Cardona from a-far if I’m not mistaken.

    :D

As I’ve said in a previous comment I made, Coach Dindo should make changes in the rotation and leave Joshua Webb out of it. There are a lot of other guys we can play. Again Webb was not a factor at all. I’d rather see more playing time for guys who can make plays instead of turnovers. Tampus is one of them. He played solid defense yesterday besides his huge contribution on offense. Marata, although he still is in a slump, still commands people to run out at him when he’s at the 3 point area, and thus, can drive and kick out like he did yesterday. Coach, if you can here me, please use the others instead of Webb.

CAPTAIN SIMON! GRABEHHHHHH!!!! Ur the man!!! Galing talaga ng KING ARCHER Namin! You really are a worthy captain for DLSU! Jarelan Tampus is one hell of a guy! Super idole ko toh! I know this guy will be feared in the UAAP! I love the rookies and DLSU! GO ARCHERS! I LOVE THE WHOLE TEAM! This is LA SALLE Basketball. Show them how to fear us.

Yes Webb has been playing below par this season. I really hope he steps up his game as hi did in the first ADMU-La Salle game last season where he scored 28 points! If he can’t, I agree with Marts, the logical thing to do is to bench him (regardless of the crowns he brought to DLSZ, plain and simple, if he can’t deliver, he doesn’t deserve to be on court).

if ever we face feu in the final four, we have a distinct advantage against them because we are now ‘practically’ 2-0 in our head to head match-up against them(if not for that last 2 minute collapse in the first round)

another thing, if not for the late collapse in our first round games against feu and adamson, we’d be on top of the team standings at 9-2. erga, this team has come a long long way. only one team we haven’t beaten, adamson. and i don’t think adamson is as good as feu and ateneo

I agree. Joshua’s best game was the game against Ateneo in last year’s UAAP. This year, there is not a game in which he has not committed errors and shots blocked. The only redeeming factor is his foul shots which is fairly decent. In yesterday’s game, a lay up was nullfied because Webb had to foul an FEU player even when that player had already allowed the one driving in to lay up without it being contested. What is wrong with Joshua Webb. I know he can play better. Perhaps he should add more dimensions to his game, like learning how to shoot from the outside. The team’s rhythm is disrupted every time Webb is in the game. Perhaps he is trying tooooo hard.
