The Green Mind: Time for Change

I was thinking really hard whether I should write this article or not.

After watching La Salle being beaten by Ateneo, I really was not sure if I should put down my observations, especially because I respect the people that I would be talking about.

Then I told myself that this is not about the person but the position they hold on the team. So I decided to write down what I thought and if those mentioned get offended, please forgive me. Its nothing personal.

Let’s start with the plus points of this game. We hit a high percentage of our foul shots. That’s it for the plus points.

The coaching was horrible. The so called “La Salle system” has been figured out by all the coaches and most especially Norman Black. Funny because this was the same observation by many of the La Salle supporters after the game. We are not doing anything new anymore. They say that if it ain’t busted, dont fix it. Now our game is busted and needs a major overhaul… READ MORE

I agree with you completely. It looks like the team has so much high quality material but the coaching staff do not know what to do with them. I hate to say this but not all Pumarens are created equal.

Tony why not have the boss danding support the DLSU team? The number one nemesis today for San Miguel teams in the PBA is Talk and Text( MVP). Extend the rivalry to the UAAP. Can he ask his coaches to train our big men in skills? We need all the help.

He along with Razon are already supporting the team this season

very well said Tony, you made open my mind and accept the reality.Masakit isipin na ang dating naghahari sa UAAP basketball are now the underdogs, ang masaklap pa, ang ateneo pa ang nagle-lead.

Without playing time Vosotros, mendoza, marata cannot get the needed points to help the team. we have slashers like oda and la to drive and draw. Ateneo does this very well why cant we. Screen plays are ok but timing is important. It can easily misfire.

WANTED: SLASHERS! GTFO: JUMP SHOOTERS! Sinabi ng bigyan ng playing time si tampus eh! More slash plays for him and revilla! Nuff with the pacute and pa poging tirang butiki ng mga "shooter"

We need Danding and Franz back.

Torres is actually good in the 3pt line. There is just a lack of setup to take a 3-pt shot. Moreover, we do have good players. In fact, we have a good pool of players that fits a wide variety of situations. If we can only use the talent that they have, we have a chance to win with other universities. I remember when I was in HS, their was a this player who scores 30+ points. But when he moved to DLSZ, he was not playing that much. He only had few shots. You see, its not the talent that DLSU relies on instead, they see to it if they are qualified to the so-called system.

Bring back Franz or Find another Franz Pumaren !! Dindo is Dindo,he can never be a Franz Pumaren, He had a star studded UE squad before but he didnt win the crown.WAKE UP LA SALLE, REMOVE DINDO,BRING BACK FRANZ, OR AT LEAST FIND SOMEBODY BETTER.

TIM CONE FOR DLSU HEADCOACH. Thank you to the Pumarens but we need to move on. The system does not work anymore. Tim is perfect. He has nothing more to prove in the PBA. Time for him to create a new dynasty. Prove himself in the more prestigious collegiate league. - by TIMCONE4DLSU - Appealing to the DLSU godfathers to make this happen. For sure, this will start a new DLSU dynasty in the UAAP. Time for change! ANIMO!

I even saw the boys (Maui, and others) at Mall of Asia the night before the La Sale-Ateneo game. Sana nag practice shooting na lang sila!

Mr. Atayde, you have absolutely nothing to be sorry about!! Your article took guts to write, and it's right on the money. BULLSEYE!!! CHANGE is what we green-bloods have been hankering for all this time. We love Dindo, Jack, & Tonichi to death cause they are all brothers, but PLEASE, IT'S TIME FOR NEW BLOOD!!!! A-N-I-M-O !!!!!!

DLSU should consider Binky Favis, Mon Jose, Jason Webb and Dino Aldeguer as a replacement to the current coaching staff of the archers..

To all the Green Archers, Prove that our team is not just all about LA REVILLA. Prove it! Otherwise, all of you are just totally USELESS!

Change the entire coaching system. Coach Dindo seems to be confuse with what he is doing. For the second time against a strong team, he used almost all the players again. This only goes to show that he doesn't know really what to do as he is still "experimenting" his line-up. For now,we just have to make a strong statement against UP on Saturday in order for us atleast to gain some respect for this season. If we will still be having a hard time against a UP then I can boldly say that we will definitely miss the final four this season!

Leadership also matter on this game!

My dear La Salle Team I guess we are not doing anything new anymore. Do not repeat the tactics which have gained you one victory, but let your methods be regulated by the infinite variety of circumstances. The secret to success is to do the common things uncommonly well. Take this as a challenge.

I was so glad to see Conjuangco and Razon cheering for the Archers in yesterday's first match between DLSU and ADMU this season. Maybe it is high time for Mr. Cojuangco and Mr. Razon to at least match the total involvement ADMU is getting from their biggest benefactor, Mr. MVP himself! Why is ADMU getting the best rookies/recruits every season? Good players (young phenoms) from all over the country would choose ADMU because of MVP's total package that addresses the basketball career needs of the these young talents. Even our hopefuls from the junior league as well as those that come from the NCAA league are going to other schools to play in the senior league. With Cojuangco's and Razon's resources we can match any other team's offers to young talents all over the country, including the total overhaul of the so-called La Salle system. I have seen what Danding can do to a basketball team. In the late seventies or early eighties he made a major transformation in the way teams are built by elevating RP basketball to world-class standards! It's is time for a CHANGE at DLSU's basketball system. We will require a good CHANGE MANAGER to do the job!

at this early stage la salle should be looking beyond season 74. la salle should look at more home grown players to eventually take over. both la salle zobel and la salle greenhills have a pool of great players. zobel at 2-0, lsgh at 3-0. the blazers are even better-off then their counter parts from taft. in fact even college of st benilde (csb) should be looking at the junior teams. i know that as far back as fil-oil and fr martin the junior players from zobel have been scouted and are already receiving feelers from, would you believe, non-la salle schools. the taft coaching staff, along with the school administrators, think more strategic then tactical. take the case of ravena...and other blue eagles before him....i don't see a plan....so much to be harvested from one's back yard. what must one do just to wake them up and see the bigger picture.

as i've been saying...time and again...coaching is the problem. we have great talents out there. this team is no longer a rookie laden team. they can no longer claim that we are still in rebuilding phase. IT's the coaching staff! look at how dindo rotates his men? look at how our players move during plays? crazy! look at our big men 2- 3yrs back and up-to now, has anyone seen improvements in their skills, arsenal? NONE! replace tonichi yturri. he has done nothing better to still coach our big men. andrada, papot and mendoza still play thesame. it would be a grave sin when we all see van opstal and gotladera display thesame skill in their entire 5-yrs in uaap. another observation, except for L.A. revilla, everybody were missing shots. In salitang kanto: ANG BABANO ng players natin. I don't know...but clearly we've been missing shots-layups,medium range shots name it. Everybody has seen how maui took his shot at free throws...horribly awkward! the former pba great, allan caidic tries at leat 500shots daily during his practice rounds in his college heydays according to some news articles...WHY cant we force our players do at least 2,000 practice shots daily? why can't we have them coached individually in terms of shooting skills? Just like in golf. Every professional golf players has a swing coach. Can't we afford it? ateneo has only MVP. WE have COJUANCO and we have many more. There's nothing wrong in the support system...IT's the COACHING. i wouldn't be surprise if dindo resigns after this year's campaign. sad to say, it's very hard to see our team figure in championship. 4th place will be a bonus.

I like that 2,000 practice shots daily :)

How would they have the time or energy to crack their books and work on their academics? These aren't pros. They're student athletes who must make the grade or they drop out of the team. Remember Bringas?

Palitan na si Dindo Pumaren!!! Ibalik si Coach Franz!!! Dindo's rotation is like a try out for all. Give Tampus, Webb, Marata more playing time to help LA Revilla.

Halos parehas lang ang system nila. What we need is a variety of defensive and offensive tactic that would suit best against different teams.

more isolation plays...lesser 'moving the ball around' plays....scrap the full court press for it only drains the energy of the players affecting their Free Throw percentage and offense....more individual isolation and low post plays... changing the system changes everything!

"more isolation plays...lesser 'moving the ball around' plays"- bro sa tingin ko mali to. We should instead move the ball more, isolation and too much dribbling will just lead to bad shots/possession, pero I like post plays to create space. Magkaiba ang effective ball movement sa "moving the ball around" for the sake of moving the ball. Effective ball movement makes the defense of the other team work and move. Pero I get your other points.

yes. you have a point.. the problem with the team is..they kept moving the ball around but can't find the right timing to take the shot and execute...what i thought lacked was some isolation plays.. like give tampus or revilla some one on one isolation plays since they have the ability to create points with their one on one skills.. at the same time they can lure defenders to double team them..then move the ball around to the open man....same as through with what you said about low post :)

Can someone explain the process of Tryouts for dlsu mbt. Who is the contact person whom I can ask specific questions. Salamat Po
