Cha Cruz leads the way as La Salle beats Adamson

The Lady Spikers had it quite easy this time.

Led by Captain Cha Cruz’s 18 points, La Salle defeated Adamson 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 yesterday to start the second round of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

The team cruised through the first two sets but they had to climb from a 6-point deficit towards the end of the third set to close out the game. Though they committed 23 errors in this match, this is already a big improvement from the 44 they had against UST last week.

Next opponent will be FEU this coming Wednesday. La Salle escaped with a 5-set thriller against this team in the first round. The Lady Tams are currently at third after defeating NU in the other match yesterday.

I think we will be seeing Tiu coming in after the 1st game of the second round has passed

Coach Ramil obviously has a lot of confidence in Galang, inserting her into the starting lineup as a rookie. She may not be as dominant yet, but her contributions are, in Ramil's view, very key to our continued good play. Wait till she matures a bit. Next year, she'll probably be able to start stepping into the shoes of Steph. For now, she's our best bet at her position.

Good job, Lady Spikers. As a fan let me say this, I think Galang is the weak link of the team now. I know she is still young and all but I have noticed that when she is in the front row she rarely has clean hits. Her hits are most of the times top spin hits. How many chance balls did she give ADU in their match yesterday when the ball was set up to her? I think a bit too many. Lady Spikers has a hard time scoring if she's in front. I am not questioning Mr. Ramil's decision of putting her in the first 6 but I am not impressed with her style of play. She's still a rookie though and I know she will improve in time.

Good sir, as a spectator who have witnessed the game, I think Galang stepped up on their game against ADu. She's improved A LOT this second round. You may not hear from her a lot but she does her job well, she's reliable, and she delivers well. She's like a silent operator in attacking and in defensing at the back row. Give her time and experience and I'm sure she will be the spine of DLSU Spikers.
